Dr. Beth Cohen is the Principal Investigator for the Mind Your Heart Study. She is an internist and clinical investigator, as well as an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Francisco.

Melanie Arenson, BS

Clinical Research Coordinator



Melanie Arenson joined the Mind Your Heart team in 2015 and is the study's current Clinical Research Coordinator. Prior to joining the Mind Your Heart Team, she worked in a number of different areas including Cognitive Science, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Melanie graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Psychology and plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with a particular focus on military populations and policy.

Tim Christensen, BA

Volunteer Research Assistant



Tim Christensen graduated in 2015 with a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Merced and joined the Mind Your Heart study that same year as a volunteer researcher. His interests involve international medicine and he has been involved in medical relief trips to Haiti and Nepal. In the future, Tim plans on pursuing a career in healthcare with a focus on emergency and international medicine.




Steven Ilko, BA

Volunteer Research Assistant


Steven Ilko joined the Mind Your Heart team in 2015 as one of the study’s part-time Research Assistants. In addition to volunteering with the Mind Your Heart Study, Steven worked at Kaiser Richmond Medical Center as an Emergency Department Technician. He graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with a degree in Integrative Biology and is attending the University of Iowa-Carver College of Medicine where he is pursuing a career as an Emergency Medicine Physician.
